Dr. Robert Jones B.D.S. (U. Lond.) Clinical Director
I graduated from Guy’s Hospital Dental School, London in 1976 and worked for 8 years in the Hospital and National Health Services in London, Kent and Wales, including the establishment of several successful private Practices.
I studied general practitioner Orthodontics during this period before spending several years in the United States running an airline company and attending many courses and seminars in Oral Surgery.
In 1994, I undertook a partnership, and eventual succession, in a large multi discipline Practice in Germany, where my role was, primarily, in the field of Oral Surgery, Orthodontics and Cosmetic Dentistry.
I spent the period 2000-2005, working in Southern Africa, in the Oral Surgery department of a hospital as well as part-time in a private Dental Practice.
I relocated to New Zealand in 2005 and established The Dental Clinic, in Masterton, with Dr. Paddy Greville, where I currently practice, part-time, as a general Dental Surgeon, with an interest in Minor Oral Surgery and Orthodontics.
I am an accredited provider of INVISALIGN Orthodontic treatments.
During the last 3 years, I have undertaken advanced training in the use of Botulinum Toxin ( Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®) and Dermal Fillers, not only for their therapeutic (medicinal) uses, but also for appearance medicine.
I am accredited by TC Aesthetic Academy in Harley Street, London and also by the Australasian Academy of Dento Facial Aesthetics (AADFA).
I hold professional memberships of the New Zealand Dental Association (NZDA), New Zealand Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (NZACD), New Zealand Society for Sedation and Anaesthesia in Dentistry (NZSSAD) and the Dental Council of New Zealand (DCNZ).
I have always had a keen interest in sport, playing representative Rugby, Cricket and Squash in a past life!
Dr. Akash Kota B.D.S. (Otago)
I graduated from the Dental school in Otago in December 2015 and was very pleased to be extended an offer to join the team at Masterton Dental Clinic in January 2016. I wanted to find a position in a modern, progressive practice that offered a comprehensive range of in-house treatment options and a Principal that both welcomed and encouraged the teaching of these skills and promoted advanced learning. A review of our website and all of our treatment options will indicate that I found one of the best Practices in New Zealand to join.
I am currently studying for a post-graduate qualification in Orthodontics, have completed my early training in Aesthetic Medicine and have attended numerous courses in Prosthetics, Implantology, Cosmetic Dentistry and Practice Management systems.
In my spare time I am slowly working towards my Private Pilots Licence, attending the local gym and hiking in the beautiful Wairarapa hills and Countryside.
Dr. Michelle McSweeney B.D.S. NUI (Hons)
I graduated from University College Cork, Ireland, in June 2013 and have worked for 3 years in London and Kent. During this time I gained considerable experience in both Private and National Health Practices.
In 2016, I travelled to New Zealand with a view to exploring the Country and found myself drawn to the Wairarapa, where I decided I should like to settle and make this my home.
It was my great fortune to discover that Masterton Dental Clinic were considering expanding their Practice and it was with great pleasure that I found myself being offered an Associate Dental Surgeon position within their organisation. One of the great attractions is the opportunity I will be afforded to advance my knowledge and experience within so many and varied branches of Dental Surgery.
I am enthusiastic about providing treatment within a rural community whereby I can build a rapport with all my patients and provide a true "family" Practice mentality. I look forward to providing a comprehensive range of Preventive, Cosmetic and Dental care of the highest standard and to bring to Masterton Dental Clinic my personal philosophy of providing each and every patient with a personalised, professional and friendly service that may make going to the dentist a less daunting prospect.
I currently hold Professional memberships with Dental Council of New Zealand (DCNZ), Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA) and The New Zealand Dental Association (NZDA).
In my spare time I enjoy hiking, painting and traveling- most of which I intend to do exploring New Zealand over the next few years.

Chanmony Khieng BOralH, BMedSc.
I have recently joined Masterton Dental Clinic as a Dental Hygienist working on Saturdays. I am a 2016 graduate in the Bachelor of Oral Health course from the University of Otago. Prior to this I completed a degree in Biomedical Science at Otago, following which I found an interest in the dental field.
I am currently enjoying my weekend travels between Masterton and Palmerston North, as I also work as a Dental Therapist for MidCentral DHB. So far, my career as an oral health practitioner has been challenging, however, exciting and rewarding. I hope to be able to influence and encourage my patients to take pride in their oral care and health.
I enjoy playing badminton, a good walk outdoors and spending time with family and friends around food.
Vivienne Gerritsen BSc.
I obtained my Batchelor of Science in Earth Sciences in 1990 and then spent 12 years working in the field of Hydrographc Surveying for the Royal New Zealand Navy and Ports of Auckland.
Following my years as a full time mother to my 2 children, I obtained my Certificate in Health Care Support (Dental Surgery Assisting) in 2009 as well as competency in the Exact Dental Software system. I also obtained my certification in Small Business and Money Management between 2013 and 2015.
In March 2016, I returned to the workforce full time and joined Masterton Dental Clinic in the role of Practice Administrator. I have been fortunate to be part of a team that encompasses all areas of practice management, administration as well as participating in the clinical areas that involve general Dentistry, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Prosthodontics and, in partnership with Wellington Cosmetic Clinic, a full range of Cosmetic treatments.
I am certified to level 4 in resucitation and recovery.
In my spare time I love walking, travelling and spending time with friends, not least of which involves the four legged canine who has decided to make our home his home!
Teresa Laffey
I have recently joined Masterton Dental Clinic as part of their Reception and front desk team and am currently undergoing the challenge of learning the completely different and complex field of Dental Surgery and its many branches.
Carla Mowbray DSA
I joined The Dental Clinic team in 2006, after a long career in hairdressing and embarked on my DSA certification course, passing this in 2007. Over the next few years I assisted in many oral surgery procedures, including several visits to the plastics unit at Hutt Hospital, where several of our patients have undergone extensive treatment for various oral cancers.
In 2010, I successfully completed my Level I examinations in Orthodontic Assisting and followed this by achieving certification in Level II in 2012. I have attended several Invisalign courses as well as the Fast Braces training.
In addition to the above, my duties include assisting in all aspects of general dentistry, administration and record keeping. I am trained in the Zoom tooth whitening system as well as sharing responsibility for the operation and maintainance of the sterilisation and radiography departments.
I am also trained to assist in the use of Botulinum Toxin for treatment of Bruxism and dento-facial aesthetics, Dermal Fillers and the Obagi range of skin rejuvenation treatments.
In my spare time I look after my demanding animals and am in the process of planning to build a new home with my partner.
Charlotte Macdonald-Winiata
After leaving school, I determined to persue a career in the dental field but had to wait quite a few years before an opportunity arose to fulfil that dream. However, early employment after leaving schoolin the retail and hospitality industries prepared me well for dealing with the general public.
I am currently in my second stint of employment with Masterton Dental Clinic, returning two years ago after the birth of my twin daughters. I seem to have found myself specialising in nursing for new dental graduates and easing their path from student to General Practitioner- although I'm not sure if they would all agree with the word "easing"!
In addition to my chairside duties, I also work in administration, which is part of our rotation policy at the Practice, enabling all of us to be proficient in both clinical and administrative procedures. I am also trained to level 4 in resucitation and recovery.
In my spare time- twins allowing- I enjoy going to as many live concert events as I am able and hope to do more travelling in the future.
